Bush and Beach Safari - Ultimate Wildlife AdventuresBush and Beach Safari

Exercise your adventurous side in some of the best game reserves Africa has to offer and then unwind in utter luxury on the beaches of Africa’s pristine coastline and island retreats.

A bush and beach safari is the perfect way to combine an exhilarating safari with some much deserved rest and relaxation. It is surprising how tiring a safari can be and it isn’t unusual to feel jaded after the adrenaline wears off. Taking a trip to the coast or a paradise island afterwards is a great way to recuperate and also provides you with time to reflect on your safari adventure.

Of course, electing to tag a beach destination on to the end of your safari isn’t necessarily the end of your wildlife experience. It doesn’t confine you to laying on a sun lounger watching the world go by. Many of our beach type destinations are on tropical islands in the reef-rich Indian Ocean, therefore meaning your safari can continue under the water if you so desire.

Tanzania is the premier safari and beach destination due to its well-developed infrastructure. The islands of Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia, as well as the coastal mainland destination of Ras Kutani are all relatively well connected to the famous game reserves of the northern, southern, and even western circuits.

Zanzibar is a wonderful island destination for both cultural experiences and wildlife viewing opportunities. Visit Stone Town, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the capital Zanzibar City. Here you can mingle with the locals whilst learning about the fascinating history of the island. Snorkel in the coral reefs or go diving at one of the many certified PADI schools. Swimming with dolphins and the huge whale sharks are a fantastic experience. The Zanzibar red colobus monkey, endemic to Zanzibar, can be found here in the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park and nowhere else on the planet.

Mafia is one of the world’s premier destinations for swimming with whale sharks whilst Pemba is superb for diving and water based activities. The accommodation on both islands are largely more suited to the outdoorsy type looking for a rustic and authentic experience rather than the luxury that is more closely associated with Zanzibar.

Kenya also links safari and beach destinations extremely well thanks to kilometres and kilometres of pristine Indian Ocean coastline. Malindi and Watamu offer a variety of accommodation but can be busy. Lamu Island is a more suitable location for those wanting a more authentic experience.

Travelling further afield is the postcard perfect quintessential Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. Luxury is almost guaranteed at one of the many upmarket resorts.
