Be in the right place at the right time. Planning Be in the right place at the right time.

Planning an African safari should include researching the wildlife species you'd most love to observe in their natural habitat.

Don't expect to see all African wildlife species in every destination you visit. The topography of a particular destination may be ideal for a particular species to thrive but not so much for others.

The magnificent red lechwe is a specialist antelope occurring only in south central Africa. They are semi-aquatic antelope, preferring perennial swamps. Therefore, they are abundant in wet areas such as the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana but don't expect to see them in the dry areas of the Kalahari or Namib Deserts, these areas are populated by antelope such as kudu, springbok and oryx.

The serval is one of only 10 species of wild felin The serval is one of only 10 species of wild feline occurring in Africa.
With the lion and leopard being members of the Big 5 and the cheetah also an iconic African species, this medium sized cat is little heard of.

Actually seeing a serval on safari should be seen as a privilege, as their relatively small size and preference for ambush hunting in long grass naturally makes them difficult to observe.

Those lucky enough to do so may experience their unique hunting style. They are specialist bird hunters and can jump 9 feet to pluck a bird from the sky.

The bat-eared fox is a canine species native to Af The bat-eared fox is a canine species native to Africa.

They are a small species of dog, weighing only 3-5 kilograms, similar to the average domestic cat.

Their diet consists mainly of insects, with 90% being harvester termites.

Their nocturnal habits and small size make them a difficult species to locate on safari but it is not unheard of for them to be active during the day. Night drives also provide a good opportunity to spot these charismatic little dogs.

Sundowners in Africa are somewhat a tradition. It Sundowners in Africa are somewhat a tradition. It is customary to toast the end of a fantastic day on safari by raising a glass and watching the sun as it paints the sky, before dipping below the horizon.

Our friends at Wilderness Safaris take it to a different level such as this floating bar in the middle of the Okavango Delta.

It is special moments like these that guests will forever remember. These special touches are just one of the reasons we love working with them.

Cheetah (Acinonyx Jubatus) The cheetah, although Cheetah (Acinonyx Jubatus)

The cheetah, although one of the most highly recognisable creatures in Africa, is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN.

Amongst many challenges facing the existence of the cheetah is the high mortality rate amongst cubs.

Sadly, these 2 cute cubs have their work cut out to survive to adulthood. Their main challenges are from predation by lions, spotted hyenas, leopards, honey badgers, jackals and even secretary birds.

The African Fish Eagle is undoubtedly my favourite The African Fish Eagle is undoubtedly my favourite African raptor.

A large eagle with a wingspan of up to 8 feet, this eagle is widespread throughout East & Southern Africa and is rarely missed on a safari that includes destinations with lakes or rivers.

The eagle's location is often given away by its distinctive high pitched call as it perches in trees overlooking its hunting grounds.

The African Fish Eagle specialises in fishing but will also eat carrion if the opportunity arises. This rabbit was killed by a Tawny eagle before it voluntarily vacated the kill. A bateleur eagle then enjoyed the kill before this fish eagle muscled it out of the way.
